Early Onset Type 2 Diabetes – Accessing healthcare professional education
NHS England is committed to addressing the needs of those living with type 2 diabetes, including those diagnosed at a younger age (18 – 39). The T2Day programme initiative by NHS England aims to address the needs of people with early onset type 2 diabetes (EOT2D) through funding to local healthcare teams to enhance care and deliver services specifically tailored to people with EOT2D. NHS England has also funded access for healthcare professionals to the Eden early onset type 2 diabetes online learning package, in order to support delivery of care to this cohort.
Eden is an established award-winning NHS education team based at the Leicester Diabetes Centre at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS trust. Eden believe
that people living with diabetes and associated conditions should have access to highly skilled and knowledgeable healthcare professionals (HCPs) who
receive evidence-based education delivered by credible clinicians.
Eden have developed an online learning package, with optional mentoring, to assist and support HCPs in the effective delivery of care for those living with type 2 diabetes who have been diagnosed at a younger age (18 – 39).
The programme focuses on women of childbearing age, cardio-renal-metabolic, management, psychological wellbeing, and person-centred care specifically for young adults. The programme can be accessed virtually by healthcare professionals across England to develop, upskill, and enhance knowledge and confidence in delivering high-quality effective care to young people with type 2 diabetes.
