Scaling up type 2 diabetes remission with The Lifestyle Club

15 Oct 2024
Nutrition & Lifestyle Clinic

Dr David Unwin, RCGP National Champion for Collaborative Care and founding member of the charity has helped 25% of his surgery’s diabetic register to achieve drug free remission over the last 12 years and published widely on the subject. In three years, The Lifestyle Club has delivered structured education and support to over 1,400 patients across 10 Primary Care Networks (56 surgeries) helping patients improve their diabetes control through diet and lifestyle changes with many achieving complete remission. Over 90% remain on their lifetime support programme enjoying monthly webinars and connecting with each other through health coach led, peer support groups. Having won the HSJ Silver Primary Care Project of the Year Award in March TLC want to make this novel and cost effective approach available to many more people.

The Lifestyle Club (TLC) is scaling up the low carbohydrate approach to diabetes remission pioneered by GP, Dr David Unwin at his surgery in Southport. TLC is a QISMET accredited, award winning, health coaching service which delivers structured education and support to patients in over 50 surgeries across England. Hear the evidence base for low carb and how you can offer TLC to your patients with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes to improve blood glucose control, weight, blood pressure and a wide range of complications. How tackling the root cause of insulin resistance, rather than medicating symptoms, improves the lives of patients, clinicians and will free valuable NHS resources too.
