T2D and hypertension

16 Oct 2024
Keynote Theatre
Both T2 Diabetes and hypertension are often asymptomatic, silent killers. More than three quarters of those affected by diabetes also have raised blood pressure and both conditions are strongly associated with cardiovascular disease. In a way it should be no surprise that both conditions seem to share some common causes. It has been known since 1932 that insulin causes renal sodium retention. I will describe how this may affect blood pressure and how a low carbohydrate diet has been shown to help both conditions.
Speakers
Dr David Unwin, RCGP Clinical expert in diabetes - Norwood Surgery
