Comments sought on new NICE guidelines for type 2 diabetes
The latest National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines for type 2 diabetes are out for consultation, with clinicians encouraged to review and comment by Thursday, October 14, 2021.
The guidelines, Type 2 diabetes in adults: management, cover dietary advice, cardiovascular risk, blood glucose levels and long-term complications, among other areas.
Updates include a review of the evidence on drug treatment for adults with type 2 diabetes, with the report also including research suggestions and explanations for the 2021 recommendations and how they might affect practice.
Topics covered include individualised care, patient education, bariatric surgery, antiplatelet therapy, and drug treatment. These are subject to change, however, as the guidelines undergo consultation.
The guidelines are aimed at:
- Healthcare professionals who care for adults with diabetes
- Adults with type 2 diabetes and their families and carers
- Commissioners and providers of diabetes services
The consultation phase ends at 5pm on Thursday, October 14, 2021, with the finalised guidelines expected to be published on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.
