New continuous glucose monitoring comparison chart launched
The Diabetes Specialist Nurse Forum UK has worked with Diabetes Technology Network to launch a new continuous glucose monitoring comparison chart
A new continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) comparison chart has been launched to support people with type 1 diabetes.
The chart has been created to help people with type 1 diabetes to choose the most appropriate product for them.
The Diabetes Specialist Nurse (DSN) Forum UK worked with the Diabetes Technology Network (DTN) UK to develop the chart in response to the updated NICE guidance and the increased choice of products becoming available to prescribe in primary care.
Vicki Alabraba, Director at DSN Forum UK, said: “With so many products starting to become available it was easy to see why helping people with type 1 diabetes to choose the most appropriate product could be a challenge.”
The updated NICE guidance state healthcare professionals should “offer adults with type 1 diabetes a choice of real-time continuous glucose monitoring (rtCGM) or intermittently scanned continuous glucose monitoring (isCGM, commonly referred to as ‘flash’), based on their individual preferences, needs, characteristics, and the functionality of the devices available.”
Factors to consider when choosing an appropriate monitoring device include the accuracy of the device, whether the device provides predictive alerts or alarms, data sharing with friends and family and insulin pump integration.
