Alice Smith is Professor of Lifestyle Medicine at the University of Leicester and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. She leads the Leicester Kidney Lifestyle Team, an internationally renowned multidisciplinary research group which aims to help kidney patients achieve the best possible health and wellbeing through appropriate lifestyle management. The team strive to produce high quality research and to involve patients, carers healthcare professionals and other stakeholders as partners to ensure delivery of research that meets the needs and expectations of the ultimate user-groups. Over the last 15 years, the research portfolio has delivered more than 20 single- and multi-centre clinical trials which have recruited over 12,000 participants from across England, and published 200 research papers. The culmination of our work is the production and evaluation of “My Kidneys & Me” an online education and self-management resource for people living with kidney disease. We worked closely with our colleagues in the Leicester Diabetes Centre on this project and the resource is hosted on the MyDESMOND platform. It is now ready for implementation in routine NHS kidney care.
