Dr Sainsbury trained in Diabetes & Endocrinology in Glasgow, and is a consultant Diabetologist at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Since 2018 he has been an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Applied Health Research, University of Birmingham, and is a CSO Innovation Fellow and Clinical AI Lead for MyWay Digital Health. His current research focuses on the application of machine learning methods to clinical datasets to predict significant clinical outcomes, identify optimal therapeutic choices, extract causal information from datasets and generate synthetic data. Current and recent funding has been from Innovate UK, NIHR, MRC and EPSRC.
