Co-Founders, Henry Aspden, Andrew Kerr and Andrew Bigg founded Team Type One Style back in December 2020. Originally intended as a UK elite cycling team, the 3 quickly realised that the Type One Diabetes community were missing the sense of a domestic-based T1D community they wanted to create. As a result, they immediately expanded the team to be inclusive of all sports and backgrounds. The team’s mission statement to “Shift the Perception of Type One Diabetes” is fulfilled on 3 fronts. - To shift perceptions through awareness and publicity to the public, coaches and other athletes through it’s registered cycling, running and triathlon teams. - To shift perceptions through empowerment for newly diagnosed athletes, parents, and carers. - And finally, to shift perceptions through education in healthcare, sporting and education settings by working with HCPs and coaches on how to best assist T1D athletes.
