Ian Lawrence

Dr Ian Lawrence is the Head of Service for Diabetes in Leicester, and other roles include Clinical Lead for Insulin Pumps and Co-Chair of the Diabetes Delivery Group. He was previously the Clinical Director for Emergency Care and Medicine in Leicester, and on the DAFNE National Executive for 6 years. He has a long-standing interest in Insulin Pumps, and has welcomed the advent of Hybrid Closed Loop (HCL) Pump Therapy transforming the lives of people with Type 1 Diabetes. Since mid 2023, HCL Pump Therapy has been offered to every pre-conception and pregnant woman with Type 1 Diabetes, with a doubling of successful pregnancies, and a halving of both Neonatal Hypoglycaemia and NICU (Neonatal ICU). Through 2024 he has led the Community Roll-Out of large-group HCL Pump starts, using Remote Follow-Up and the involvement of the Pod Peer Support Group.
